Construction of the PLA Syncro-Lift

In 1980 the Port of Launceston Authority constructed the Syncro - Lift for servicing the growing demand for ship repair work for larger vessels. This lift has a maximum lift for vessels 70 metres in length, of 4.8 metres draft and 2250 tons in weight or 1950 ton displacement. Glasgow Engineering designed and built the manoeuvring winches for the Port of Launceston Authority‘s Syncro-Lift. These are required for locating the ship’s on the timber blocks prior to raising them out of the water.
