Aga
The AGA Difference
If you’ve ever owned an AGA, we don’t need to tell you how food tastes better.
We don’t need to explain the unique warmth of an AGA kitchen.
We don’t need to tell you how tactile an AGA cooker is, these are all things you tell us.
Perhaps, though, there are a few things you don’t know about the new models available now ...
Here is our break down on the various Aga models:

The Crucial Differences Explained
"eR" Series vs. "R" Series (Operational Philosophy)
- eR3 and eR7 (Everyday Radiant = Flexibility): These are designed for modern lifestyles. Ovens and hotplates feature fast heat-up times and can be shut off entirely when you go to work, head on vacation, or during hot summer months. This heavily reduces energy consumption.
- R3 and R7 (Radiant 24/7 = Traditional Warmth): These cater to the traditional AGA experience. The ovens stay on continuously, radiating a cosy, gentle warmth that helps heat the kitchen and dry clothes.
3 Series vs. 7 Series (Build & Usability)
- 3 series: These are "hybrid" models. To offer a smaller footprint and lower price point, they combine two cast-iron radiant ovens (one for roasting/baking, one for simmering) with a conventional 90L electric fan oven. They also come standard with a state-of-the-art induction hob situated alongside a single cast-iron hotplate.
- 7 series: These are the heavy-duty, premium flagships. They feature cast-iron ovens throughout (comprising three to five separate zones for dedicated roasting, baking, and simmering). They utilize the iconic dual round cast-iron hotplates on top.
Control Level: eR7 vs. R7
While both belong to the premium 7 Series, their control systems are radically different:
- eR7: Features a digital touchscreen. You can set the roasting oven across 5 distinct heat settings and the baking oven across 4 settings. It includes a remote handset to program the ovens to turn on automatically for specific daily cooking cycles.
- R7: Uses a simplified dial. Because the ovens stay on, you choose from 4 overall temperature settings for the entire cooker: Slumber (maximum energy saving), Low, Normal (optimal pre-set), and High (a boost setting for heavy holiday cooking).
Radiant heat cooking
The AGA cooker uses radiant heat from the cast irons ovens to create food that tastes fantastic and, because this method of cooking is so gentle, all the nutrients remain locked in. The AGA cooker is ultimately forgiving. Unlike with many cookers, if you leave something in just that bit too long, it won’t dry out and become inedible.
AGA cooking is intuitive. Each oven is designed to perform a certain function, such as roasting, baking or simmering. That means you don’t need to worry about setting exactly the right temperature; you simply use the oven appropriate for the dish you are cooking.
